Birmingham City owner Carson Yeung has been released on bail after being charged with money laundering on Thursday.
A Hong Kong court charged the 51-year-old with five counts of dealing with property known or believed to represent proceeds of indictable offences totalling about HK$721 million (57.5m pounds).
He was released on bail of HK$7 million (559,000 pounds) and the trial adjourned until August 11.
Birmingham City acting chairman Peter Pannu said in a statement the charges were not connected with the running of the Championship club.
I have been informed that Carson is assisting (the police) with enquiries that have nothing to do with the operation of BIHL (Birmingham International Holdings Limited) in Hong Kong and therefore nothing to do with th…
Italy manager Cesare Prandelli has talked up international friendly opponents Spain ahead of their clash on Wednesday in Bari.
The match will see 2006 World Cup winners host the current world champions, and Prandelli is wary of the depth of superstar talent that Vicente del Bosque s side possess.
Obviously there s always the risk of taking a battering against the world champions, but that s part of the game, the Italian boss said.
We are convinced we can play a good game. They ll almost certainly be better than us in some technical aspects, but when get the ball we will need to be brave and show our character.
Prandelli has flagged his intentions to start AC Milan s Antonio Cassano and Villarreal s Giuseppe Rossi up front, with Cassano a former Real …

Asian champions Western Sydney Wanderers will be hoping they can kick-start their season when fellow strugglers Newcastle Jets come to town.
The Wanderers are the toast of Asia after becoming the first Australian club to win the AFC Asian Champions, edging Saudi Arabian powerhouses Al Hilal 1-0 on aggregate earlier in November.
But it is a different story for the cellar-dwelling Wanderers in domestic competition, with the Western Sydney outfit yet to win a match in five attempts.
The Wanderers collected their first point of the A-League campaign midweek, playing out a goalless draw at home to Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday.
Despite the Wanderers remaining winless, coach Tony Popovic believes his team are on the right track ahead of Saturday s clash a…
Manchester United face a tough return to the Champions League this season after being drawn with Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow, according to Jose Mourinho.
United s Europa League triumph in Stockholm in June secured their path to the group phase of Europe s elite club competition for the first time since 2015.
The early Premier League pacesetters were placed in Group A during Thursday s draw for this season s competition, and Mourinho expects a difficult test to finish in the top two.
I think it s a dangerous group, he told a media conference ahead of Saturday s league clash with Leicester City.
If you go to the recent history of United, United lost against Basel, United couldn t beat Benfica in two matches, I think also against CSKA Moscow the last ti…
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp left the door open for Alberto Moreno to earn his place after the left-back s impressive performance against Bayern Munich.
Moreno produced a fine display to help Klopp s side to a 3-0 victory over the Bundesliga champions at the Audi Cup on Tuesday.
The Spaniard has been widely linked with a move away from Anfield after making just two Premier League starts last season.
But Klopp is seemingly open to keeping Moreno, who started ahead of new signing Andrew Robertson.
It was a really good game from Alberto, that s why we kept him on, because every second he was playing better, he was more present, Klopp said.
He s really fit but he s had a little problem with his thigh since the day before yesterday. But we had a te…
Mikel Arteta described his players as the most honest after Claudio Ranieri accused them of a lack of respect following Arsenal s 1-0 win over Watford at Emirates Stadium.
The Watford head coach was unhappy that Arsenal did not give the ball back after it had been put out for an injury in the move that led to Emile Smith Rowe s decisive goal.
The result extended the Gunners unbeaten run to 10 games across all competitions and marked Arteta s 100th game as Arsenal boss with a win.
Arteta issued a staunch defence of his squad s conduct, revealing that, if anything, he feels his side can occasionally be too honest.
If I have to define my players, my team and my club, I would say that they are the most honest all of them, Arteta said. At some stages, we can …
Watching Aaron Cresswell whip in a free-kick and securing all three points against Manchester United on a sunny afternoon at the London Stadium, the mood in West Ham s camp seemed to be on the verge of skyrocketing back in September.
Promising a genuine European push after breaking the bank last summer, the Hammers were really starting to shine under Manuel Pellegrini and the future in their new home looked rosy.
However, jumping forward nine months from that 2-0 victory against United, West Ham make their return from the enforced break at the heart of yet another relegation scrap and with civil war between the supporters and their board.
With vocal protests prior to the break and growing pressure on the trio of David Gold, David Sullivan and Karen Brady to sell…

Cristiano Ronaldo conceded that Sunday s 2-1 defeat to Serbia was tough but vowed that Portugal s hopes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup are still very much alive.
Despite an early goal from Renato Sanches in Lisbon, an equaliser from Dusan Tadic and a 90th-minute Aleksandar Mitrovic header saw Serbia leapfrog Portugal to win Group A in World Cup qualifying.
Fernando Santos men must now go through the play-offs in March if they are to qualify for the showpiece tournament, though captain Ronaldo reassured he still believes his side will qualify for Qatar.
