Eagles RB Ryan Mathews dealing with ´significant´ knee injury, ruled out

Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews right knee injury may be more serious than first thought.

Already ruled out for Monday s clash with the Green Bay Packers, Eagles coach Doug Pederson told reporters on Saturday that Mathews is dealing with a pretty significant knee problem which could linger .

There was optimism early in the week from the Eagles camp that Mathews could play on Monday, despite suffering an MCL sprain against the Seattle Seahawks.

Now it sounds like he could miss multiple games.

Wendell Smallwood is likely to get the start in Mathews place on Monday with Darren Sproles (rib) getting work in the passing game.

Mathews, who was limited to just six games in 2014 with a similar right MCL sprain, has 521 yards from scrimmage this season with eight touchdowns.
