Here’s a look at the athletes and sports figures we’ve lost in 2022. Kathy Whitworth – Dec. 24 source: Getty Images The winningest golfer in history, Kathy Whitworth, died “suddenly” on Christmas Eve while celebrating with family and friends, according to her longtime partner Bettye Odle. Whitworth, whose 88 victories are the most by any player on a single pro tour, was 83. She was the first woman to earn $1 million on the LPGA. Her first title came in 1962 and last in 1985. “Kathy left this world the way she lived her life, loving, laughing and creating memories,” Odle said in a statement. This may or may not be a good thing for women's sports: "I think we are well on our way to getting rid of that image," midfielder Julia Simic told Playboy. "More and more sweet, pretty girls are playing football who also go shopping and place value on their appearance." Well, I suppose that's nice and all, but the reunified Germany inherited a rich tradition of success in international women's sports from its eastern half. Some of those ladies were doped to the gills, and developed male features, but I'll be damned if they weren't the best at what they did. Tread lightly, pigtailed ones. It's that time of the year. Time to unveil MLB's opening day payrolls, and laugh at the teams spending like drunkards (Yankees, $229 million) and the ones fielding quadruple-A rosters (Astros, $24 million). Let's dive in. As it does every year, the Associated Press has compiled the salaries of every player on every 25-man active roster. Since this information isn't public, it requires a little estimation, but these figures are the absolute best you're going to get. Click on the cities in the map above for each roster's individual player salaries. (If you have trouble finding the annotation, just search this page for the team name, and you'll find it in the discussion section below. You can also search for individual players' names.) Here's…
The St. Louis Cardinals are submitting quite the wet fart of a season. They finished the first half at 43-45 and are currently sitting in fourth in the NL Central with a 47-51 record. This team is a bunch of bums. When manager Mike Matheny discusses losses, he has a tendency to credit failure to a bunch of little mistakes. Especially in a tight game, those small miscues can add up to disappointment. It’s fitting, then, that someone would compile two minutes’ worth of those bloopers by the Cardinals. God, it’s like an intramural softball team working out the kinks in the first inning, but for an entire season. My favorite part was when the Cardinals player goofed. …
data-mm-id=”_w82nuwkiw”>The Los Angeles Lakers won their 30th game of the season last night, poetically beating an aggressively dirty New York Knicks squad by 30. KCP was nearly decapitated and Anthony Davis fell on his butt. With the Lakers refusing to be interesting by way of dysfunction, people are throwing stuff at the walls hoping anything will stick. The latest comes from Stephen A. Smith who said today that Kawhi Leonard said, "Someone tell LeBron to stop being scared to guard me." A source told @stephenasmith that Kawhi said "someone tell LeBron stop being scared to guard me!" pic.twitter.com/Aa1EELqZ8W— First Take (@FirstTake) January 8, 2020This is the first (alleged) recorded instance of Kawhi talking trash. Or just talking in general, really. Why would…
data-mm-id=”_gsyivmnh2″>Julius Randle put up some really good numbers this season in his first year with the New York Knicks. But the 25-year-old forward apparently annoyed teammates with the way he played. Rookie RJ Barrett was especially frustrated by the veteran's playing style. The New York Post's Marc Berman revealed that a number of players think Randle dribbles too much and doesn't get teammates involved. Despite putting up solid numbers this season, Barrett and others were not happy:”Nevertheless, some Knicks, including rookie RJ Barrett, were frustrated by Randle’s penchant for not distributing the ball quickly enough and overdribbling, according to two sources familiar with the situation.”While he didn't get his teammates involved enough, Randle averaged…

data-mm-id=”_uzqlx92nh”>Bryce Harper was ejected from the Philadelphia Phillies' matchup with the Colorado Rockies on Sunday after he attempted to take on the entire opposing team.
